Quick Answer: Movers can move some lake gear and not the rest. Kayaks, paddleboards, dock boxes, and drained, disconnected ATVs can ride inside the truck. A boat on its trailer needs to be towed by you or hauled by a marine transport company, because a moving truck does not tow. Drain the fuel, pull the batteries, and dry everything before move day, and the crew handles the rest.
Can movers move a boat? Around Beaver Lake, that question comes up on almost every estimate. Families in Rogers, Lowell, and out toward Garfield own more watercraft and trail machines than most neighborhoods own lawn mowers. So the garage on move day holds a bass boat, two kayaks, a side-by-side, and a dock box full of life jackets. This guide sorts all of it into three honest categories: what rides on the truck, what needs its own trailer, and what cannot go at all.
Why Beaver Lake Moves Come With a Second Garage
Beaver Lake stretches for miles along the east side of the metro, and the lake lifestyle is why a lot of people move here in the first place. That means boats, personal watercraft, fishing gear, and trailers are part of the household. It also means ATVs and UTVs, because the same families ride the trails around the lake and up toward Pea Ridge. None of that packs into a box. So the plan for the lake gear has to be made before the plan for the couch.
The Three Categories
- Rides on the truck. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, dock boxes, coolers, fishing rods, life jackets, wakeboards, and small trolling motors. Also ATVs and UTVs that have been drained and disconnected, if they fit through the door and the crew has a ramp.
- Needs its own trailer. Any boat sitting on a trailer, from a jon boat to a pontoon to a bass boat. Also personal watercraft on their trailers. A moving truck cannot tow, so these travel behind your own vehicle or with a marine hauler.
- Cannot go at all. Fuel in any container, propane, marine batteries left connected, boat flares, and anything pressurized. These get used up, given away, or carried in your own vehicle, never in the truck.
Boats and Boat Trailers
A boat on a trailer is a towing job, and moving trucks are not built or licensed for towing. So you have two choices. The first is to tow it yourself behind your truck or SUV, which works for a local move across the lake or down to the new house in Lowell. The second is a marine transport company, which makes sense for a long distance move or a boat too big for your vehicle. What a mover can do is handle the trailer once the boat is off it. An empty boat trailer can sometimes ride on the truck if it fits, or the crew can help you stage it for your own tow. For a local move, many families simply tow the boat to the new dock or the marina slip first and let the crew handle the house the same day.
ATVs, UTVs, and Side-by-Sides
These can often ride inside the truck, and the difference is fuel. A machine with a full tank is a fire risk in a closed box, so the tank gets drained and the battery gets disconnected before the crew loads it. Once that is done, the crew rolls it up a ramp, straps it to the truck wall, and pads the sides. Weight matters too, because a full-size UTV is heavier than most furniture. Tell us the make and model when you book so we bring the right ramp and enough hands. A machine that is too heavy or too wide for the truck goes on your trailer instead.
Kayaks, Paddleboards, and Dock Gear
This is the easy category. Kayaks and canoes ride on the truck wall, wrapped and strapped, hull side out. Inflatable paddleboards deflate and roll. Hard boards get blanket-wrapped and stand next to the kayaks. Dock boxes empty out and travel like a large plastic bin. Life jackets, ropes, anchors, and fishing gear pack into boxes like anything else. Wet gear is the only mistake here, so dry it all the week before.
The Prep Checklist
- Drain the fuel. Run tanks as low as possible and siphon the rest. This applies to ATVs, small outboards, and any gas can.
- Disconnect the batteries. Pull the terminals on every machine and carry marine batteries in your own vehicle.
- Empty and dry everything. Coolers, dock boxes, live wells, and bilges. Anything wet grows something on the way.
- Strap the loose parts. Seats, ladders, canopies, and props come off or get tied down.
- Decide the tow. Know who is pulling the boat and when, so it does not block the driveway on load day.
What We Handle on a Lake Move
Our local movers in Northwest Arkansas load kayaks, paddleboards, dock boxes, and drained, disconnected ATVs and UTVs that fit the truck. We bring the ramp, the straps, and the padding. We do not tow boats or trailers, and we do not carry fuel, propane, or connected batteries. For a long distance move, our long distance team follows the same rules, and the fuel restrictions get stricter across state lines. Every crew member is a W-2 employee, trained and certified in house, working for a company owned by an Army veteran. If you are unsure whether something fits, send a photo with your estimate request and we will tell you straight.
Marinas, Lake Roads, and Timing
Lake roads add their own wrinkle. Driveways around Beaver Lake are long, steep, and sometimes gravel, so the truck may stage at the road while the crew shuttles. Marina moves at Prairie Creek in Rogers, the slips on the Lowell side, or Lost Bridge out past Garfield toward Pea Ridge need a plan for where the boat lands the day the house moves. Summer weekends fill the boat ramps, so a weekday move keeps the driveway and the ramp clear. If you are moving into a new lake build, our post on moving into new construction in Northwest Arkansas covers the driveway and access side.
Packing the Rest of the Lake House
Once the gear is sorted, the house moves like any other. Our packing services can handle the whole home, the kitchen only, or the single piece you worry about. Wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes come free with every move.
